Travel Tuesdays: Gone (Cross) Country!

Well, I'm slightly worried that I have misplaced 95% of my photos from the cross-country trip. I'm going to go home tonight and see if I can reconnect my camera to download them again. We shall see. In the meantime, I wanted to follow through with my promise at least to the best of my ability! So here are the lone four photos that I can currently find from my trip. At least they're good ones ;)

Driving through the desert in Arizona. On our way to the Grand Canyon.

The snow-covered mountains in Flagstaff, AZ.

The great nothingness and beyond! (AZ on the way to the Painted and Petrified Forests, I believe).

The Grand Canyon. Beautiful.

The Inevitable Schedule

I thought I would take a page from the blog "Lovely Little Things" and discuss my restaurant/neighborhood adventures in DelMarVa (aka Delaware, Maryland, Virginia area...also to include D.C.). If you haven't clicked on the link I have for her blog, you're missing out on a really simple yet lovely addition to your daily readings.

Back on track: I'm planning on going to dinner tonight in a brand new neighborhood with my friend, Annie, tonight and want to make sure that I capture it on this blog. That turned into a thought that I also want to make sure I'm capturing my ENTIRE journey a bit more. Not just new restaurants (like Lovely Little Things), but also neighborhoods, hikes, life lessons, etc.

I've become lazy with the blogging mostly because there's just SO much newness in my life right now. But this is precisely the time that I SHOULD be blogging...when there's so much to share! CAPITAL LETTERS UNITE!

So, since I want to do so many things (new and old) I've decided that in order to keep track I'm going to use a weekly schedule.

  • Monday Musings (from the weekend)

  • Travel Tuesdays (highlighting a little travel around the area)

  • Whatever Wednesdays (for just...whatever)

  • Everyday Inspiration Thursdays (to keep up with my love of decor/art/nature/etc.)

  • Foodie Fridays (highlighting a new restaurant that I visited).
The weekends are MINE ;)

Of course, I don't expect to use this as a rigid schedule, but more as a guideline. I mean, come on! I don't plan on traveling AND eating out every week! So maybe one day if I cook a meal instead of go out to dinner, I'll highlight what I cooked.

Love,

PS. To kick off the schedule, I'll post my cross-country trip photos on Travel Tuesday. Finally!

Single Ladies, Meet Single Harry

Had to share this tidbit of gloriousness. Such an amazing sentiment ;)

The Royal Procrastination

Hi, friends! I wanted to set up a quick message to say that I've been crazy busy with my cross-country trip/move. I am officially back in Maryland and working in Virginia (for now...ouch). I hope to upload photos this weekend and possibly use my blog as a jumping off point for some of my creative writing. More notes to come soon!

Happy Friday and Merry Royal Wedding!

Love this t-shirt. I think it totally gets what millions of us girls Will's age have secretly been thinking :) By the by, eight years! Now that's dedication...or procrastination.

A Few of My Favorite Things: Mission Trails Park

I will definitely miss the outdoor adventures and misadventures of San Diego. There's so much to do outside here. I mean, the 70 degree year-round weather doesn't hurt ;) But it's more than that. There's open space here, which is funny because locals seem to think that it's completely developed. Silly San Diegans. The picture above is of Mission Trails Park. It's such a wide open space filled with hikes and waterfalls. Gorgeous. I'll have to find places in Maryland and D.C. to go for weekend walks. On a side note, I captured a few more things that have inspired me decor-wise over the past weekend/week. These were the centerpieces from an Alzheimer's event where I volunteered on Saturday night:

And, this is one of the simplest and cutest little things I've seen in forever. I went for a glass of wine on Monday with my friend Nissa to this place near Windmill Farms (love that name!). These little tea light holders were sitting in the middle of the patio tables. They're filled with faux pearls, which I'm convinced I could find at the Goodwill. Love it!
Finally, this is what I had for dinner last night. Just wanted to share :) It was a little slice of heaven on earth...chicken pate, port cheese, and a glass of chardonnay.

Hope you're having a fabulous week!

Travel Tuesdays: California Central Coast

I thought it would be a good way to get me out and about if I had a post about my travels. This week's travel took me far (rather than near, aka the town I live in) to California's Central Coast. My friend Suzie planned a girls' wine trip to Oxnard, California, where we played and stayed on Saturday, March 26th, and then drove up to Santa Barbara on Sunday before heading back down to San Diego. With snacks in the bag and Bonnie picked up in L.A., we jetted up to our hotel to change and get to the first wine bar! Although it was inside an industrial park, it was definitely a memorable night with fabulous ladies and great wine. And our wine-ista gave us tons of hints on where to go for wine tastings and dancing--Ventura!

Queue The Eagles "Ventura Highway" for the upcoming photo journey:

Bonnie and her wine. A match made in heaven :)

Wine Rack. V.I.P. indoor patio (the wine club members got to keep their wine in lockers in the back room. GREAT idea).

Cute tea light holder next to my sparkling wine. Leurve.

The check came in this old planner. Adorable. Love this picture of Suzie and Bonnie. Love you girls!

Capriccio dinner. Wine in cups. Mussels in garlic. Cheesy lasagna. Good. Good. Good.

This picture is super hard to see, but it's in a back DJ room/dining room. These are old vines on the walls and there were tons of lights on the ceiling. Loved this patio idea. Also, the front room had a live band playing Jackson Five and Rihanna. Those cougars really know how to belt Oh NANA at the top of their lungs ;) High fives all around!

Sunday in Santa Barbara. Me and some pup down the ocean, hon.

Isn't she pretty? Gotta love the Pacific.

This is the view of Santa Barbara from the water. It was FREEZing. I wish you could see the steam coming off the water on the warm day.

State Street Santa Barbara. Beautiful.

One of the most amazing drives in the country, I'm convinced. Drive down the highway back to San Diego and you'll see playful dolphins, elite islands, and blue skies.

Over looking the ocean. I love water. This is a happy girl.

Ventura Highway in the sunshine.

Where the days are longer,

The nights are stronger than moonshine.

You're gonna go, I know.

Happy travels today!

Everyday Inspiration: Santa Barbara

I love picking up decoration inspiration from everyday experiences. And this last trip up north with my friends, Suzie and Bonnie, was no different.

Two weekends ago, Suzie put together a girls' wine weekend to Oxnard and Santa Barbara. I'm working on putting together the photos from that trip, which was AWESOME! But in the meantime, I thought I'd put up a few snapshots of some interior inspiration that I caught on State Street in Santa Barbara. Just in time for Easter/spring!

Egg candles in a crate.

Felt puffball pussywillows.

This is hard to see because of the flash on the glass, but it was a really simple and cute feather necklace hanging on a leather string. I think I have all the ingredients to make this DIY necklace this weekend (excluding the feather, which I might just get at Michael's)!

I wish I could remember the name of this store. It had the best beautifully recycled goods I've seen to date. Re-used tires, chains, pop tops. Gotten any craft inspiration lately?

Also, side note, I've been obsessed with watching old seasons of Roswell lately. I ran out of Bones instant queue and thought that Roswell would be perfect for my upcoming cross-country road trip through New Mexico. And then I went to see Paul with my friend Ginny last night. I love me some aliens!! ;)

Phoning home,
