Will Run for Chocolate

So, as it turns out, I don't really hate running. I think, for me, it's hard to run because a. it's boring and b. it's hard to breathe. With excercise-induced asthma, training for a race physically can be just as much for my legs as it is for my lungs. BUT, I went for a three-mile run on Tuesday and it was much easier than even the week before. Which is very encouraging. I don't know if you know this, but not being able to breathe sucks, ESPECIALLY if it happens while you're trying to work out :)

Anyway, I'm bringing this all up because my mom suggested to me a while ago that I participate in the Hot Chocolate 15k/5k. Of course, I could do the 5k since I know for certain that I can run 3 miles with little problem. But why not continue to push myself through this running thing, increasing the distance little by little? Besides, I'm already going to be up to a 10k distance by this Sunday (cross your fingers that I can last!), so why not just keep on keeping on?

If I keep my training up and follow Hal Higdon's 15k novice training (he's the same guy I started using halfway through my 10k training), I should be ready for a 15k right around the date of the Hot Chocolate race. Holler! Look at me, all focused and whatnot. Haha. Anyone care to join me for this challenge? I think I'm going to wait to sign up for it until AFTER I finish the 10k (no need to get ahead of myself). But I'll let you all know and see who's interested. They have a Hot Chocolate race in Chicago, D.C., Dallas, San Diego, San Francisco, and Denver in the upcoming two years, so find a race near you and enjoy the sweet rewards!

Besides, the quote is true: No matter how slow you go, you're still lapping everybody on the couch. Love that feel-good attitude!

Love,
Stephanie Marie

  1. I love this quote! I'm stealing it. And you're inspiring me to run. I think I'm going to start training for a 5K. Baby steps...
